Mattia Urlotti | URLO
Multidisciplinary Artist & Author

«The image halts time. Matter occupies it.»
– URLO
The work of Mattia Urlotti (Scandiano, Italy) operates between the rigor of vision and the gravity of substance. His multidisciplinary inquiry identifies writing as the genesis of thought, conceptual photography as visual synthesis, and matter painting as physical realization: a deliberate trajectory aimed at defining space through substance.
Following studies in law and economics and a corporate career, Urlotti chose to strip away the superfluous. Past analytical rigor evolved into artistic intent and critical acuity, where aesthetics merge with the essential to target pure significance.

The Photographer of Silence
For over two decades, photography has served as his primary language. Exhibited and awarded in national and international exhibitions, his work investigates the essence of objects and time. Often described as a “photographer of silence,” Urlotti uses the lens to isolate fragments of reality, transmuting them into concepts. This phase culminated in the Poegrafia project and the volume Ti scatto una parola (Albatros, 2020), where the visual image achieves its definitive synthesis in dialogue with poetry.

The Word and Critical Inquiry
Writing is not an accessory to Urlotti’s practice, but an instrument of critical inquiry and discourse. A former contributor to specialized publications and journals, his authorial work spans philosophical inquiry and cultural criticism. Through language, Urlotti theorizes the relationship between humanity, space, and expressive forms, bringing the same clarity and depth of his photography to the printed page.

Matter and the “URLO” Synthesis
Today, Urlotti’s trajectory finds its definitive expression under the URLO® brand. Here, vision is no longer confined to a single medium; it becomes an immersive presence that commands space. From metaphysical photography to the matter-based pieces of the Physisseries, through the three-dimensional structures of the Polis and wall installations, each work asserts an absolute presence within the environment. The distinction between the depth of the photographic shot and the physical density of matter dissolves: everything serves an aesthetic of the essential that physically engages the viewer.
In his studio, Mattia Urlotti develops his research across photography, text, and matter, producing unrepeatable works and singular objects. The result is a multidisciplinary body of work conceived for spaces of distinct character—where the artwork is never a decorative accent, but the defining element of the architectural volume.
